I often feel trapped between contradiction, urgency, and the complexity of everyday life… and little by little, I accept and normalize unfair, unhealthy, even surreal situations that make my life feel more absurd and less ethical.
Let me tell you one of those scenes:
One day, I called the sales center to ask a question. The answer:
“It can be fixed, madam, but the part plus labor will cost you more than a brand-new air conditioner. It’s not worth it.”
Grrrrrrr… ! (It makes me want to scream)
This practice is a special type of obsolescence, known as economic or cost-based planned obsolescence.
And there’s more: Shoes with fake stitching and soles that fall apart, cookies loaded with sugar and palm oil wrapped in attractive packages for kids, risky additives, microplastics, non-recyclable materials… Phew, the list goes on.
When you realize that these crazy situations aren’t accidents, but part of a perfectly planned system that everyone just goes along with, I get angry and feel like giving someone a piece of my mind.
But who exactly?
The seller, the producer, the distributor, the ones who allow it…?
Since I don’t know where to start, I end up doing nothing.
(…)
But today can be different.
Today I can simply say: That’s it! I don’t want to keep adding to this linear, throwaway model of consumption. So, I’m going to look inward, laugh a little at myself, and start imagining myself as a true circular explorer —someone who wants to, and can, help change things.
In this transformation, El Circulómetro can be an inspiration and a guide built on a threefold purpose:
To break down the linear, throwaway model we’ve come to see as normal —a model that harms our health, our economy, and the planet.
To show that there is another way, people, ideas, and brands that are building a circular, ethical, healthy, and regenerative system.
To change the way we consume into an act of personal and global transformation — through everyday where change really happens. With every purchase, we build the world we live in.
